How Microsoft blew it with Windows Mobile – CNN.com. – This is not that surprising as Microsoft’s development cycles, desktop debacles and competitive practices have alienated a large swath of the computing public. The iPhone, Android and Blackberry are much better from an OS perspective and continue to innovate. Think about this…The last thing I would want for a phone OS is one modeled after Windows….seriously remember Windows ME, Vista, etc… Come on…this is not a stretch for anyone other than Microsoft itself.

The social networking example given in this article really show the amazing latency benefit one can get using Neo Technologies product. It is true that relational databases are not always the best answer, but definitely the most popular. Other unique databases such as Cache’ and others have been fighting an uphill battle to try and compete with Oracle, IBM and Microsoft. It will be very interesting to see how the position themselves against these 800-LB gorillas.

XP Will Be With Us A Little Longer

So after a great deal of complaining to Microsoft by numerous parties…they have acquiesced, and will continue to sell XP for five more months. That means manufacturers can continue selling PCs with all flavors of Windows XP preloaded until June 30, 2007. This is a welcome change and will allow many people including myself to continue to use XP, as numerous people have found Vista more difficult and less useful to use. I have noted that XP continues to be the OS of choice for many corporate customers, as it is less cumbersome than Vista, and still remains a strong alternative to Vista for road warriors. We can only hope that Microsoft will work harder to make Vista easier before it finally closes the door on the faithful and respected XP.
